History

Originally called Farmingbury, the area was settled in the 1730s by English colonists of the Connecticut Colony, carved out of the borderlands between the early towns of Waterbury and Farmington. It was formally incorporated in 1796 and renamed Wolcott in honor of the prominent Wolcott family, one of Connecticut's most distinguished political dynasties. The town's long agricultural heritage still shapes its landscape and community identity today.
