History

The land that is now Trumbull was home to the Golden Hill Paugussett people for thousands of years before English settlers arrived in 1639 as part of Stratford. The town was officially incorporated in 1797 and named in honor of Jonathan Trumbull Sr., Connecticut's beloved Revolutionary War-era governor and a trusted confidant of George Washington.
