History

Sharon was incorporated in 1739, taking its name from the Plain of Sharon referenced in the Bible. Long before European settlement, the area was home to the Mattabesec people, part of the broader Wappinger confederacy, who knew this land as Poconnuck. Sharon's well-preserved historic districts reflect centuries of careful stewardship.
