History

Originally inhabited by the Mohegan people, who called the area Poquechaneed, Lebanon was settled by colonists from Norwich and formally incorporated in 1700. During the American Revolution, it arguably punched above its weight more than any other Connecticut town — Governor Jonathan Trumbull made Lebanon the nerve center of Connecticut's wartime supply operations, earning the town the enduring nickname "the Heartbeat of the Revolution."
