History

Settled in June 1640 and incorporated in 1645, Farmington is one of Connecticut's oldest towns and was once so influential it was called the "mother of towns," having given rise to numerous surrounding communities. The town also played a meaningful role in the abolitionist movement — it was a stop on the Underground Railroad and sheltered survivors of the Amistad case in 1839.
