History

Founded in 1639 by English settler Roger Ludlow, Fairfield is one of Connecticut's oldest towns — its motto, Qui Transtulit Sustinet ("He who transplanted still sustains"), reflects deep roots in perseverance and community. During the American Revolution, British forces burned much of the town to the ground in 1779, but Fairfield rebuilt and ultimately flourished into the thriving community it is today.
