History
Founded in 1639 by English settler Roger Ludlow, Fairfield is one of Connecticut's oldest towns — its motto, Qui Transtulit Sustinet ("He who transplanted still sustains"), reflects deep roots in perseverance and community. During the American Revolution, British forces burned much of the town to the ground in 1779, but Fairfield rebuilt and ultimately flourished into the thriving community it is today.
Community & Living
Fairfield feels like a town that genuinely likes itself — tree-lined neighborhoods, a vibrant downtown with local restaurants and shops, and a strong sense of civic pride make it a perennial favorite for families and professionals alike. Residents tend to stay for decades, drawn in by the schools, the shoreline, and that hard-to-define feeling that everything you need is just around the corner.
