History

Coventry was officially named in 1711 and formally incorporated as a town in 1712, making it one of Connecticut's earliest settlements. The first families — many transplanted from Northampton, Massachusetts — built their homes near the shores of what is now Coventry Lake, guided by land originally granted through agreements with local Indigenous leaders.
