History

Cornwall was incorporated in 1740, nearly four decades before American independence, and named after Cornwall, England. Its early history took a surprisingly global turn when the Foreign Mission School operated here from 1817 to 1826, enrolling young men from Hawaii, Native American nations, and beyond in an ambitious — if complicated — experiment in cross-cultural education.
