Sue Spang

Sue Spang is the First Selectman (First Selectwoman) of Salem, Connecticut, serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the town and its Chief Elected Official. In this role, she is responsible for routine and emergent municipal operations and represents the township in local, state, and regional civic and business affairs. She has resided in Salem for approximately 38 years, where she and her husband raised their two children.

Spang, a Democrat, won the First Selectman seat in the November 2025 municipal election, defeating Republican Ronald LaBonte by an unofficial margin of three votes, 738 to 735. A recount was held the following Monday to determine the official results. Her election was notable as part of a broader shift in Salem's political landscape, with Democrats taking control of both the First Selectman's office and the Board of Selectmen — a change from prior election cycles.
