History

In 1720, a party of eight men originally from England purchased 16,000 acres of the region, naming it after Wellington, Somerset in their home country. The town was officially incorporated in May 1727, making it one of Connecticut's earlier established communities. That English heritage is quietly embedded in the town's very name.
