History

Rocky Hill's story begins in 1650, when European settlers from neighboring Wethersfield — itself one of Connecticut's oldest towns — began farming and trading along the river. The area flourished as a natural port, becoming a hub for shipbuilding and commerce before being designated Stepney Parish in 1722 and finally incorporated as its own town in 1843.
