Robert J. Chatfield, born in 1943 and known locally as "Mayor Bob," is an American politician who has served as the Mayor of Prospect, Connecticut since 1977. A lifelong resident of Prospect, he attended the town's public school system and graduated from W.F. Kaynor Technical High School. A member of the Republican Party, Chatfield was first elected on November 7, 1977, and has been re-elected continuously ever since, making him the longest-serving elected official in the state of Connecticut.
In 2023, Chatfield was elected to his 24th term as mayor, with his current term running from November 18, 2023, through November 2025. His decades of continuous service have made him a prominent figure in Connecticut municipal government, and he is widely recognized as the longest-serving mayor in Connecticut history.
