Robert C. Yamartino

First Selectman

Middlefield, Connecticut

About

Robert C. Yamartino serves as the First Selectman of Middlefield, Connecticut, the chief executive officer of the town's Board of Selectmen. He was initially appointed to the position to fill the vacancy created by the death of First Selectman Edward P. Bailey in December, prior to which Yamartino had served as a Selectman on the three-person board. He has since been elected to the role, winning the November 2023 general election and again in 2025, when he received 876 votes as the Republican candidate for First Selectman.

As First Selectman, Yamartino oversees a broad range of municipal responsibilities consistent with Middlefield's traditional New England-style town government. His duties encompass public safety, health and sanitation, roads and bridges, education, planning and zoning, animal control, public utilities, fire and police collective bargaining, and records management, among others. The Board of Selectmen, of which he is the presiding officer, is elected every two years and derives its authority from the town's charter, with its core mandate being to "superintend the concerns of the Town." Yamartino has also emphasized communication and transparency with residents as priorities of his administration, issuing public updates on matters such as storm response and police protection services.
