Rich Smith

Richard M. Smith is the Mayor of Milford, Connecticut, having taken office on November 17, 2025, as the city's 13th mayor. He previously served as Milford's 11th mayor, making him one of the few individuals to hold the office on multiple occasions. A lifelong Milford resident, Smith was raised in the city and attended its public schools before going on to Yale University, where he graduated with distinction. He later pursued graduate studies in public policy at Trinity College.

Smith married his high school sweetheart, Michelle, and the couple raised their three daughters in Milford. His professional background includes leading large teams and managing complex budgets across his career. He ran as a Democrat in the 2025 mayoral race, challenging incumbent Mayor Giannattasio, before winning the office.

As mayor, Smith has identified several key priorities for his administration, including strengthening Milford's public schools, supporting local businesses, and preserving the city's distinctive character. His stated goal is to help Milford grow stronger while maintaining it as a welcoming community for current and future residents.
