Mayor

Windsor, Connecticut

About

Nuchette Black-Burke, M.Ed., serves as the Mayor of Windsor, Connecticut, a position she holds as an elected member of the Windsor Town Council. She is a Democrat who was elected to the council and subsequently chosen by her fellow council members to serve as Mayor, as is customary under Windsor's Council-Manager form of government, in which the Town Council elects a Mayor from its own membership for a two-year term. Black-Burke made history as the first African-American Mayor of Windsor, CT, succeeding longtime mayor Donald Trinks, who retired from politics after more than 20 years in the role.

Black-Burke's background is rooted in service, advocacy, and community connection, and she holds a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree. Her career has been characterized by a focus on public service at the local level. As Mayor, she presides over a bipartisan nine-member Town Council that meets on the first and third Monday of each month at Windsor Town Hall. The council is responsible for shaping how the town allocates its staffing, equipment, and financial resources, and also appoints the Town Manager. Black-Burke has been recognized as a trailblazer by regional organizations, including the Capitol Region Council of Governments (CRCOG), which highlighted her leadership as part of its Women's History Month series.
