Norman Needleman, commonly known as Norm Needleman, is an American politician serving as First Selectman of Essex, Connecticut. In addition to his role at the local level, he has served as a Connecticut State Senator representing the 33rd district, which includes the town of Essex. Needleman has a long history of public service in Essex prior to becoming First Selectman. He served on the Economic Development Commission from 1995 to 2003, the Zoning Board of Appeals from 1997 to 2003, and the Board of Selectmen beginning in 2003. He is currently serving in his fifth term as Essex First Selectman.
As First Selectman, Needleman has focused on addressing local and regional issues, including the revision of the town's capital improvement plan. He has been noted for maintaining property taxes among the lowest in the state while continuing municipal services.
