Justin M. Elicker (born July 31, 1975) is an American politician serving as the 51st Mayor of New Haven, Connecticut. A Connecticut native, he attended public school and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Middlebury College in Vermont, as well as a Master's degree in Environmental studies. Prior to his tenure as mayor, Elicker served as a diplomat in the United States Foreign Service and as a city alderman representing the East Rock neighborhood of New Haven.
Elicker, a Democrat, was first sworn into office in January 2020. He has since been re-elected multiple times, most recently winning a fourth two-year term in November 2025 with approximately 84 to 85 percent of the vote in the general election, defeating opponent Orosco. His campaigns and tenure have focused on issues including housing, public safety, and opposition to certain federal administration policies.
Since taking office, Elicker has stated his primary goal as creating a city where every New Haven resident has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of which neighborhood they live in. He has served as mayor for over six years across his terms in office.
