About
Dana Barrow Jr. is the First Selectman of Scotland, Connecticut, serving as the town's chief executive officer. He is affiliated with the Republican Party and has been endorsed by the Scotland Republican Town Committee, including for the November 7, 2023 election cycle. As of at least October 2025, he continues to serve in the role, having presided over special town meetings including one held on October 7, 2025.
As First Selectman, Barrow holds a broad range of responsibilities under Scotland's town government structure. In addition to serving as the chief executive, the position requires him to simultaneously serve as cemetery sexton, highway supervisor, tree warden, and chief of police, though the role is not that of a sworn law enforcement officer. Policing services in Scotland are provided by the Connecticut State Police Troop D in Danielson. His executive duties include overseeing day-to-day town operations, chairing the Board of Selectmen, preparing annual and capital budgets, coordinating with the Board of Education, participating in negotiations with state and federal agencies, overseeing human resources, and issuing pistol permits.
Barrow has sought re-election to the First Selectman position, indicating a sustained commitment to local governance in Scotland. He works alongside an Executive Administrator, Wendy O'Connor, and collaborates with fellow selectmen including Mike Gurnack and Bart Laws. Town initiatives during his tenure have included a proposed solar energy project on Gager Hill Road and the replacement of the Bass Road Bridge over Merrick Brook.
