About
Robert "Bobby" C. Sanchez (born February 15, 1961) is an American politician serving as the 41st Mayor of New Britain, Connecticut. Elected in November 2025 by a margin of more than 1,700 votes over his Republican opponent, Sanchez made history as the first Latino mayor to lead the city, succeeding Republican Mayor Erin Stewart. He was officially sworn into office on November 12, 2025, at New Britain High School, with his wife Nebeska Sanchez and son Lawrence Sanchez in attendance.
Prior to becoming mayor, Sanchez served as a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives, representing the 25th Assembly District in New Britain from 2011 to 2025. A Democrat throughout his legislative career, he resigned his seat in the Connecticut General Assembly shortly after being sworn in as mayor. In March 2026, Sanchez delivered his first State of the City address, outlining challenges, accountability, and a forward-focused vision for New Britain. He has also hosted community events, including a Black History Month Exhibition and Reception honoring prominent Black residents of the city.
